Unapologetic!

unapologetic ace,asexual

(I think the obnoxiousness of that face in the last panel is at least a seven out of ten.)

Here’s the deal: I am tired of being made to feel bad about my orientation and having to apologize for not meeting other people’s assumptions of what I should be and how I should behave if I am of a certain orientation. I shouldn’t even have to apologize for not finding someone sexually attractive. I think many asexuals face stress and despair over whether or not people accept their orientation because I think far too many people dismiss asexuality as unnatural, abnormal, and a lie.

And to be completely honest, I’m done with it. I’m just done.

I invented this comic blog because I am incapable of being unobnoxious to be a little bit serious and a little bit silly about it all. Although mostly I invented it because asexuals need not apologize, defend, excuse, or justify their asexuality.

I hope you look forward to and enjoy future posts. There will be many.

Best face ever in the last panel. I’m so excited to see posts being made here. :D I’m really glad I had WordPress email me for when you posted. Hurrah! As I’ve said before, I’m really interested in hearing what you’ve got to say. You’ve been just a fountain of information lately and that’s awesome. I want you to know I appreciate it!

I especially agree with asexuals not needing to justify their sexuality. Like…why should ANYONE have to justify their sexuality? (It’s nobody’s business and I don’t understand why other people care so much.)

Take care and I hope to see another update soon!

Excellent project. You are a great artist and I’m glad you’re using your powers for good. I’ll certainly be checking back soon!

  3. Got directed here from Tumblr. A comic about an asexual? Definitely on my list!

I like this idea! (And your art style, for that matter.) I’m really excited to see where this is going!

      *flails* Thank you! :D

I’ve got a few ideas of where I want to go with the next few comic posts, but after that we’ll have to see. I hope I can update at least half as consistently as nearly every other awesome Ace blogger out there.

Hi there! I’m an asexual college student who is finishing up a graphic novel course with a final project involving pitching a comic. I decided to do mine about identity perception and recognition with the narrator/main character as an asexual because I couldn’t find any comics or graphic novels with key characters who identified as asexual. Your comic intrigues me for this reason, and I intend to keep up with it for a bit to see where you’re taking it. :D

Asexual college student taking comic classes? I’m an asexual college student taking comic classes! We have the bestest things in common! Ah hah hah…

Yeah, asexuals in any sort of fictional media are hard to find. Not sure if my comic blog counts since it’s technically, y’know, *me* going around being Ace, but close enough!

Thanks so much for commenting. ^__^

  7. This is really cool. I love your art style, and the whole idea of a comic with an ace character (seeing as there’s hardly any out there!) I’m excited to see how this progresses! :D

  8. Great work, Annah! I hope you keep doing this regularly.

Hi there! I found you through tumblr, and you look really interesting! I’m not Ace (bi, actually), but my best friend is an asexual heteroromantic, and I’m going to send her a link to this. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Wow there are other asexual people.
    I had only heard rumors…

*fistbump* I’ll be watching this blog with keen interest. It’s time I were less apologetic about my (lack of) sexuality, too.

This. Everything about this. I LOVE YOU OH MAN OH MAN. I’ve never met another asexual before, so this is supper bejoyful. <3 Nobody should have to explain their sexuality—I mean, you don't hear anybody asking straight people why they're straight.

    We're just SPECIAL, is all. Kekee~ Here's a high-five for you, Miss. /SHABAMYAY

You’re totally right. People just don’t get what asexual means. They can’t conceive that someone is completely uninterested in sex. But you know, whatever. It’s more fun being asexual, anyway. XD
